Dr. Carmen Voigt-Graf's paper is well received at workshop
School of Social Sciences staff Dr. Carmen Voigt-Graf presented at a workshop titled "Skilled Migration to Australia" held at Macquarie University in Sydney on the 19th and 20th April 2007. The workshop was organised by the Centre for Research on Social Inclusion. The title of Dr. Voigt-Graf's paper is: "A comparative analysis of Pacific Islander migration to Australia and New Zealand and the implications on labour markets in the Pacific".
Since this paper was the only paper focusing on the situation in Pacific Island migrant sending countries, it was well received by the other workshop participants many of whom were not familiar with current debates about migration in the Pacific Island region. Since the workshop in general largely focused on Australia's immigration programme without taking into account the implications for neighbouring sending countries, it was important to talk about the perspective of Pacific Island countries.
