Dr. Douglas Pacheco presented a paper about Vanuatu banking reform to the annual IBFR conference.
School academic Douglas Pacheco presented a paper titled "Banking Deregulation in Vanuatu: Problems and Prospects" at a global conference in early June. The conference, organised by the Institute of Business and Finance Research, was held at the Hotel Ramada Herradura Plaza in San Jose, Costa Rica.
The IBFR is an emerging institution that carries out research and publication in the areas of banking, finance, accounting and economic development. The institute also organizes yearly conferences to encourage scholarly interchange in the above mentioned areas of study. The paper showed the results of Dr. Pacheco's research on the Vanuatu banking sector to more than 100 participants from all parts of the globe. The paper was well received by the attendees and the conference itself received media attention in Costa Rica. The paper forms the basis for an article that was later submitted to the Journal of Social and Economic Studies (University of the West Indies) and is due to be published in December 2006.
